PTE Academic has introduced important changes from 7 August 2025, making the test more focused on practical, real-world communication skills.
The updated format introduces two new speaking tasks — Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation. These changes increase the number of question types from 20 to 22 and place greater emphasis on spontaneous communication.
The test duration has also increased by approximately 15 minutes, making the total test time around 2 hours and 15 minutes. Another major update is the introduction of a hybrid AI and human scoring approach for selected speaking and writing tasks.
